We have front row seats to our local Snohomish Easter Parade every year. You can't say were not kid friendly! Check out our Faded Elegance kid posse. I am feeling old it feels like just yesterday I was marching in the same parade with my Brownie troop.

Easter snuck up on me this year, Chloe reminded me that we still needed to make her Easter Bonnet last night. She drew her bonnet design; I was very relived that I could scrounge up all that she needed.

It's new home is in our La Vie Parisienne jewelry case, showing off our beautiful French jewelry. Of course, Chloe wants the golden carriage in her princess bedroom!

A special thank you to Kelly Dubyne of Distinctive Interior Designs, Kelly shared her extensive knowledge of interior design as well as everything you ever wanted to know about furniture. Everyone received a special goodie bag with a paint color deck, 10% off life preferred customer card from Miller Paint Co. and Tokyo Milk Soap.

Kelly discussed what to look for in the construction of a quality piece of furniture. She also shared great decorating tips on furniture placement.

There was lots of note taking during the seminar!

I shared the 5 key steps to consider when shopping for Vintage and Antique furniture. I also shared some of my quick fixes for those pieces that need some TLC.

I'm Kelly BuByne, speaker, designer and consultant with Distinctive Interior Designs located in Lake Stevens, WA. I have owned my interior design business for 16 years and my passion is transforming your space through color, design and decor! I'm really excited to be conducting a seminar again at Faded Elegance with Kimberly, on March 25th from 6-9 pm. We'll be learning all about furniture through my seminar entitled Furniture University.
Here are a few tips on furniture shopping;

Consider your budget: Purchasing furniture is usually a large investment, so be sure you're spending your money wisely. I recommend that you buy the best quality you can afford.

Size and scale and where the furniture will be used: Think about the size of the room and the scale of the furniture. For instance, for your dinning room if you don't have enough room for a large rectangular table, you can save space by bringing in a round table, thus eliminating the square edges and saving space!

What Style are you? Take this great quiz at www.furniturefirst.com/find_style.aspx to find out if you lean more towards traditional, contemporary, coastal, modern or an entire myriad of styles. After taking the quiz myself it confirmed my furniture tastes fit into the casual, traditional style.

How is the furniture built? Knowing how the furniture is constructed can help you to purchase a better, longer wearing piece of furniture.

The Frame should be made of kiln-dried wood. This process helps to remove the moisture in wood, insuring the frame will not change shape over time.
The Seating Support. Eight way hand tied is the best support. Craftsman hand tie each coil - this strengths the support.
Cushion: Down and feathers create the softest seating, but it is also the most expensive. Some other alternatives are; blend down- a mixture of down, feathers and polyester fabrics. Polyurethane foam is the most common cushion filler today.
Fabric: natural fibers such as cotton, linen, silk and rayon are comfortable for upholstery but often require more maintenance. Synthetic Fibers such as polyester, olefin and nylon are other options. One of my favorite types to use is pile fabrics such as chenille and velvet.

A royal good time at our Crown Craft Night

Chloe and I have "Mommy & Chloe craft day." Chloe being the princess that she is usually wants to make some sort of a crown. I used one of our crowns from "Mommy & Chloe craft day" for our Craft Night at Faded Elegance. I had so much fun and was amazed by the creativity of the group;everyone added their own special twist to the project.

In true Faded Elegance Style we sipped champagne and nibbled while we worked away.

Once everyone got started, you could not stop them. We kept adding things and glittering more. Did I mention glitter? We went though 2 pounds of German Glass Glitter.

I have just returned from the Las Vegas World Market and Design Center. It's amazing what a little sunshine and a good dose of inspiration will do for your mood.My dad heard that I was going to Vegas and decide to come along. After working at the market all day we would meet go to dinner and a show and yes gamble. I am not sure if you can really call what I do gambling but I did win $200.00 on a slot machine.

I loved this very inspirational exhibit, 12 Swedish designers
each designed a living space. I found it very interesting.

This was my first time at the Vegas market, I was very impressed. It's broken down into 3 building the A, B and C building with a huge outside common grounds with white leather couches. They have the Cloud 9 bar for buyers with models dressed in all white serving drinks and nibbles. Very chic!

I loved the new color palette for Shabby Chic. The showroom was very calming with the greys and blue hues. They are replacing Rachel Ashwell's signature pink with a french blue.

I just LOVE this new line of handmade art panels. We will be available in at Faded Elegance by February 14th. You can special order any of the art in 27 custom colors.

We will also have the art panels with Cork and fabric attached to the wood panel.

I love the French Grain panel, we will have it in both wood and fabric.

We will have numbers and monograms. I also ordered the linen pillows, the eye chart pillow and panel are super cool.

I also found some neat french country accent pieces from a new line. I "heart" these golden wings, sorry bad picture but I just had to share!

Bumped into my friends from Lynden, Grandiflora. We were chatting when Chrishopher Lowell walks by, we waved a chatted with him as he went up the escalator. I think we really made his day;) If you haven't been to Grandiflora, you have to check it out when your in Lynden!

I hope you all had a wonderful Holiday with your family and friends, we sure did! We had a wonderful year at Faded Elegance thanks to our wonderful friends. I can't believe that 2010 flew by so quickly and the Christmas season is now behind us.

Happy Holidays! We closed the store, papered the windows in preparation for the holiday season. The faboulse Faded Elegance dealers brought tons of beautiful holiday treasures and worked tirelessly on their displays. The snow only added to the ambiance, no other way to get into the spirit.
The following day we unveiled our windows and started our Best Decorated Dealer Space contest. The competition is very fierce; customers vote on their favorite space and are entered to win a $50.00 Faded Elegance gift certificate. We are still counting the ballots and will announce the winner very soon!

I wanted a different holiday look this year, an eye catching red and white. I hung mirrored curtains to add sparkle and shimmer. I recruited my sister to help wrap hundreds of gift boxes in white shinny paper and a big satin bow. When I think of Christmas I think of all things sparkly and lots of presents. Every year we do some sort of snowy scene, last year we had stacks of fire wood and snow. …hope you like it!

I’ve fallen off the blog and facebook wagon…
But I am back! I’ll just get caught up:)
October was a crazy month for us at Faded Elegance. I just love October, not just because it’s my Birthday month.

You all know that Chloe and I take Halloween very seriously. We plan all year what she’s going to be. Last year she was Marie Antoinette, which was really hard to top this year. Chloe had decided on Repunzel, unfortunately when I went to order her costume from Chasing Fireflies it was sold out. We than decide to go with the French Can-Can dancer. (Chloe calls it the French Cha-Cha dancer) Well, Rocco our dog had to get in the action, so Rocco was a Caveman with wig and all.

We have our Halloween traditions, First we give out Candy to all the Trick or Treaters at the store. After that my entire family meets up at my Grandmother’s house for dinner and trick or treating. Most of us show up in some sort of costume. We have friends stopping in throughout the evening dressed up.

Katie, Mari and I hit the road to Ruffles and Rust in October. We had a great time, it was a fantastic show very well run. My camera died so we took pictures with Katie’s Camera. (Hint Hint Katie, I am still waiting for pictures;)) I bought myself a B.day present, the most fabulous French top hat with a great graphic hat box. Our Faded Elegance dealer’s spaces were the BEST!
Well I think that pretty much gets everyone caught up! Keep posted I will be posting about our Holiday Events.

Road Trip to Funky Junk Sisters Show

Katie and I hit the road Friday night for the Funky Junk Sisters show. We arrived with just enough time to share nachos and have a glass of wine before the shopping began. I had to take home this awesome vintage industrial stool. It was nice bumping into Jessica from Faded and Worn. Her space was beautiful!

An Evenning To Remeber....

Friday Night was our 10th Anniversary Soiree and Sale. Thank you everyone for coming out and making our evening so special! I loved seeing all our friends that have followed us for all these years. Thank you for making it possible for me to follow my dream. I am a very lucky person; I am surrounded by our talented and lovely dealers. Thank you ladies for coming out and helping with our party not to mention all the new treasures that you stocked the store with!

We went through two cases of champagne and Dee out did herself with the catering. The food was so yummy! We will be posting some of the recipes from the Soiree, so keep posted. The 1st 30 friends received a Faded Elegance gift bag filled with goodies. Everyone received something, we had a drawing every 15 minutes for a fabulous gift.

Our new neighbors from Bite Me Cupcakes, Kim and Jason brought yummy cupcakes to our soiree. This weekend was their grand opening, so come check them out.

My friends Angela and Merissa of La Mea Spa indulged everyone in a sugar scrub and hand message with their luxuries bath products. You also voted for your favorite scent of lotion that I will carry in the store, and the winners are……. Blackberry Musk, Rosemary Mint and Pink Sugar. You must go have a massage at Merissa’s Spa in Mukilteo.

The Ladies of Posh Digs, Corrine and Elisa brought their elegant flameless candles. We are now proud to carry Posh Digs designer candles to warm your digs at Faded Elegance.

Faded Elegance road trip to Barn House

I know this is a little late…. I am really behind on my blogging! I apologize and promise to be much better from now on, thanks for hanging in there. So with that said...
I gathered up two of my gal pals from Faded Elegance, Katie and Rachael and headed for the Barn House. We left at 5:00 am drove for 3 hours talking the entire time.

I loved the creativity used in all of the displays.

I had such a lovely time, seeing friends, taking in all creativity and being surrounded by beautiful things. My pile of finds kept growing……

This was just our first stop; we bought even more on the way home. Thank goodness I drive a truck!
Everywhere we stopped people stared at our huge load bungied on, I am surprised that a treasure didn’t fly off.

We rolled in Downtown Snohomish at 10:00 pm and took over the streets dividing up our treasures. We made several loads into the store as well. Several people walked by scratching their heads wondering what we were doing. A passerby even asked if we were having a sale!
Thank you to my partners in crime; I had a much needed girl’s day. A special thanks to the Barn House, The Vintage Gathering, and all the talented dealers at the markets.

A good weekend for a treasure hunt

Summer has arrived! What a wonderfully busy weekend of shopping, T Ball games and family dinners at our house. We are busy at Faded Elegance filling the store with fabulous finds gearing up for the 4th of July weekend. Friday, Chloe and I went on an Adventure driving to Tacoma for an Estate Sale. We had such high hopes of fabulous treasures. Unfortunately we walked out with only a Big Ben Alarm clock. You can’t keep us down! Next stop a sale in Queen Ann a friend told us about. Come to find out it was an old friends sale, the last time I had attended her sale I was pregnant with Chloe! The heavens opened up and the Sale Gods smiled on us. We loaded up with tons of fabulous treasures. One of my many favorite finds an antique scientific thermometer. I am displaying it with antique beakers and test tubes.

Saturday was Chloe’s last T Ball Game; we had the entire family out at the field to cheer her team on. It was a blast. She’s the smallest one on her team but the best batter. She really hits it! Her couch calls her “Small but mighty” Sunday the entire family woke up early in the morning to go to a sale were we scored a Victorian marble top Humidor and six wonderfully ornate chairs. Then it was time to get ready for a family soiree. It was my mom’s 63rd Birthday. We love our Soiree’s , everything I know about entertaining I have learned from my mom, Lin, She’s the queen of the Soiree’s. Monday was our best day, our good friend Julie called Sunday to tell me that she had a stash of treasures for us. I always look forward to seeing Julie and she always finds fantastic finds for me. Chloe and I packed the truck with Chandeliers, tables, mirrors, trunks and Italian Tole finds. We also purchased a beautiful French chair that I have been coveting at her house for a year. I am not sure if it will make it to the store.

My pile of favorite finds, I’d better get to work on displaying these treasures.

What an evening! I am always amazed by everyone's creativity at our craft nights. Thursday evening we gathered together to Sip, Shop and Craft. I had a fabulous time, it may have been drizzly outside but we were in full bloom at Faded Elegance. Amy Duncan of Four Corner Design provided all the necessary materials and instructions for making our fabric flowers. Everyone was encouraged to make as many different flowers while sipping champagne and nibbling.

We had the most creative ideas for the flowers during the evening; Karen made flowers to pin to her outside deck umbrella . Jodi was making different flowers for her daughter to wear in her hair. We had ladies making flowers for napkin rings and pins. Mari made a beautiful white flower with an antique button and attached it to a straw bag. Too cute!

Thank you everyone for coming and crafting at Faded Elegance. Keep posted for our next Craft night, July 15th. We will be making Travel and Garden journals!

It began with a antique door & wine...

The husband and wife team of KnobStoppers had friends over to help them decide what antique door knob to use with a reclaimed door that they had found. A friend picked up antique door knob and put it on the wine bottle and exclaimed" this makes a great wine stopper!" 14 years later we have the KnobStopper and Cake Line at Faded Elegance. Knobstoppers have been described as fun, whimsical and beautiful. Although marketed as a wine stopper they also make great stoppers for other bottles, like a olive oil bottle. Each Knobstopper is handcrafted in the U.S.A from antique door knobs, complete with chipped paint and flaws that gives each Kobstopper it's vintage charm. Each Knobstopper is constructed with a hardwood reinforced cork.

I received a bottle of wine with a Knobstopper tied to it with a ribbon as a gift, I loved it!

Around a year ago Robbie and Angie expanded their Knobstopper line with Cake, inspired by vintage pieces. Cake is a collection that celebrates the charm of the past interpreted for modern life. Our new exclusive line of clocks have arrived. These fantastic clocks are designed in Great Britten by a husband and wife team. Each clock comes with a year warranty. Newgate has a vast collection of Antique clocks that they do not sell, but hire out to the movie industry. I had so much full doing this display, layering the player piano sheet music on the wall. The French train bag pendent light is a perfect fit. I want to take it all home!

Easter is right around the corner, it's early this year. I love Easter, you have pretty Easter dresses, Easter baskets and great spring decorations. I have my entire family for Easter, I make everyone a basket and we have a giant Easter egg hunt. This year Easter is going to be hectic, I am leaving for Belize next week for my sisters wedding, we will be getting home just in time for Easter!

Today, our Easter candy arrived, these delightful award winning chocolate Carrots, Bunnies and Eggs are made the European method with a special blend of rich hand picked cocoa beans.

These gourmet solid milk chocolate candies make a wonderful addition to an Easter basket of a token of appreciation.
I display these darling faux chocolate bunnies and eggs on my dessert buffet staggered on different height cake plates. Someone all ways mistakes them for the real thing!

The French love sparklers, on my 40th Birthday in Paris we had dinner at the most fabulous French Restaurant Julien. When the wait staff found out that it was my Birthday, they surprised me with Creme Brulee and sparklers for birthday candles. It was totally magical. Check out Julien at http://www.julienparis.com/

Last August, Dee met her daughter in Paris and brought back a very special entertaining tip.
"This past summer I was sitting in an outdoor cafe in Paris with my daughter. It was midnight and people were everywhere! We ordered Champagne to celebrate, and when it came, I knew this would be the new thing I would do for special occasions. Each glass had a strawberry on the sided with a lit sparkler though it!"

Historic Snohomish Parlor Tour-Happy Holidays!

Sunday morning I was looking forward to the Historic Snohomish Parlor Tour. The past several weeks I had been chatting with several of my customers that were on the tour this year. I was so looking forward to seeing every ones holiday decorations. That all ended when I received a call from Kassidy at the store, our pipes had burst. I quickly drove to the store to move furniture and bailout water. Kassidy was a life save, she quickly moved furniture before the Fire Department and I could make it to the store. The Snohomish Fire Department were wonderful. Thank you! So long story short once again I missed the Historic Snohomish Parlor Tour.

Stephanie was kind enough to invite me to her house, I had been hearing about her house all week after the tour. Stephanie has created such a warm vintage living space in a wonderful new house. In the store many customers exclaim, "I love Antique and Vintage furniture and accessories, but I live in a new house" well Stephanie proves that it can be done.
I have found my design soul sister, I already knew this since she always buys my favorite finds. We had a fabulous time walking through her house sharing NYC flea market stories.
Stephanie has a fantastic attention to detail. I loved the chalkboard on her kitchen cabinet with french writing.
This is where her dog, jack's food and water is kept on a silver tray with this darling chalkboard. Now that we have a new puppy, I'll have to think of something this creative.

Stephanie and her husband found a antique wood from a salvage store and built their fire place mantel.

Her table setting was delightful! Stephanie used different heights to add drama and interest along with unique found objects. Beautiful!

I use found objects and items with personal meaning in my own decorating. When we have company, people always wander around looking at my vintage finds. I always have a story or memory of where I found the treasure. Stephanie has a garden urn filled with shells from a trip to Florida with her family.

Friday November 20th we had one of our "VIP After Hour Parties" with guest artist Rhonda Addison. Thank you for joining us at Faded Elegance for an evening of inspiration and Champagne. I always enjoy visiting with our friends after store hours. I am embarrassed to say that I was having such a good time, I forgot to take pictures!

Rhonda brought her newest collection of "Fall Fruit" and "Western Bling" art. Rhonda's style of photography creates a magical timeless feeling. She is known for her custom photography and embellished collections of still life images. Rhonda is amazing; her unique style of photography is a one of a kind treasured art piece.

We had a fabulous Halloween at Faded Elegance. Chloe, my darling 4 year old, was Marie Antoinette. Chloe had broken her leg 6 weeks ago and was very relieved to have her cast off in time for Halloween. We have hundreds of cute little trick or treaters visit Historic Downtown Snohomish.

Well, I am back from my trip to England and France. I have so much to share and tons of pictures. I had the most fantastic time and found fabulous treasures at the flea markets.

Very soon I will have a post on my trip, I haven't even unpacked yet!

An evening of inspiration

We had a wonderful evening of visiting and crafting with Amy Duncan of Four Corners Design. Amy is formally a partner of the Salvage Studio. She is the queen of re purposing found items and shared her secrets on making paperweights out of candle holders using vintage wallpaper and antique buttons.

Amy brought buckets of the most fabulous vintage wallpaper and antiques buttons for everyone to use in making their personalized paperweight.

She used old file folders for place mats with neat little sayings.

Any excuse for a soiree, we'll take it! Everyone enjoyed champagne and nibbles between creating and shopping. Everyone that attended received a 15% off shopping pass for the evening.

Everyone decorated a box for their paperweights out of chinese take out boxes with vintage wallpaper, buttons and ribbons. Amy found the boxes at a wholesale grocery. This is a wonderful tip for unique packaging for the holidays.

I wish I had gotten a picture of all 24 fabulous paperweights. Each paperweight was unique and different. I enjoyed spending the evening with creative like minded ladies. Keep posted for the next craft class. Amy and I are thinking of doing a holiday ornament craft.

We are so excited at Faded Elegance about our new additions to the store. Amy Duncan of Four Corners Design, formally a partner of the Salvage Studio is joining Faded Elegance. Amy is a wonderfully talented lady with a great personality. With her two Salvage Studio partners she wrote the most fabulous book that I have been pawing over for days. Amy was so sweet to tie a book up with a beautiful ribbon and handmade tag as a gift.

Amy has agreed to teach a paper weight craft class at Faded Elegance. I am hoping to have a book signing too. Everyone must get The Salvage Studio book, it’s a must!

Jan-Marie Lapsansky has expanded to a much larger space on the first floor. She has worked her magic in the back of the store. It looks just wonderful and is filled to the brim with great vintage finds for your home and garden.

At Faded Elegance we have 15 very talented dealers and artist exclusive to Snohomish that travel all over looking for Antique and Vintage treasures.

There are new arrivals every day, so it’s a good idea to stop by regularly.

Customers always comment on how the store changes all the time. We are always finding great new finds to bring in to the store.

Finding the joy in the little things……

What an evening we had at Faded Elegance. You could feel the creativity in the air, ladies gluing, cutting and sipping champagne. I was very happy with how our first
" Craft-y Evening" went. Amanda and I were just coming off the excitement of" Girl’s Night In" and decided to throw caution to the wind and pull off a craft night in two weeks. We had been kicking around the idea of doing something for Mother’s Day and decided to do the Memento Box. I am happy to report we had a fabulous evening.
Amanda supplied everyone with a darling box filled with beautiful supplies to make a darling Memento box. Amada shared with the class her “tricks of the trade” on creating a lovely one-of-a-kind keepsake.
It was a nice break from the everyday, taking time to slow down to enjoy the moments of learning something new and visiting with likeminded people.

We had Mother and Daughters, Sisters and Girlfriend crafting partners. I enjoyed seeing the creative twist of each box. My sister Laurie and niece Emily made boxes for her Grandmother and Great Grandmother. Linda from the Speckled Hen brought her friend Linda. The girls from Inside Out all crafted together for a mother’s day treat.

My sister Laurie and Niece Emily took a break from crafting for refreshments and shopping. My idea of a perfect evening crafting and shopping.

Alison and her Daughter Hally, busily creating. Allison brought her daughter and mother for Mother’s Day. That’s three generations of crafting ladies. Hally surprised her mom with a darling silver bangle bracelet in her box.

Thank you Amada and Tim for a wonderful evening and teaching me new tricks! You can see Amada featured in the upcoming Seattle Brides Magazine.

What a display of talent, each box came out a little different. My box is absent because I was too busy being a social butterfly. That’s the term my teachers in grade school would use during parent teacher conferences. I guess things never change!

We had many requests that evening for more classes, so stay tuned, we have a few ideas up our sleeves. Amada has said she'd do another class and I've been talking to a few of my very creative freinds. I can’t pass up my two favorite things, a good soiree and crafting with friends. Keep posted we had a fabulous turn out for the first annual Historic Snohomish Antique and Arts Faire.

A Mother's Love...

I hope everyone had a wonderful Mother’s Day. The sun came out and it was a beautiful day in Historic Downtown Snohomish. People were strolling from shop to shop with their moms in the best sprits.

My darling husband and daughter took me to the Freemont Market, my favorite thing to do. We shopped, or I shopped and Anthony loaded. Chloe enjoyed dog watching and helping mom shop. It was a great morning of family time and shopping, than off to the store. I quickly loaded my finds into the store and opened for the day.

That evening we went over to my mom and dad’s to continue to celebrate mother’s day with my Grand Mother and my three sisters. I guess I may have stretched the celebration a little.
I hope everyone had a wonderful Mother’s Day with their family. Our “ Craft-y Night May 8th was so fun. Speaking of Mothers, we had Mother Daughter crafters. I will post the pictures from the event. Thank you for attending and thank you Amada and Tim!

What an evening; Wine, chocolate and good company what more could a girl ask for?
Faded Elegance’s Girls’ Night In was a hit. We tasted 4 fabulous wines with 4 different chocolate parings.

· Zardetto, Brut Pivate Cuvee from Italy paired with a Vanilla Truffle
· Bernard Griffin, Merlot 2006 Columbia Valley paired with a Loganberry Truffle
· Artezin, Zinfandel 2007, Mendocino County paired with a Double Chocolate Truffle
· Bogle, Petite Sirah Port 2006, California limited release, paired with a Raspberry TruffleTonya, Nancy and I recruited our husbands to pour and serve the wine.

Thanks guys you did a fabulous job!

The BeeHive Day Spa Ladies, Nancy and Tonya.

Tonya and Nancy made custom body soaks using dead sea salt. Tonya gave everyone recipes for personalizing your body soak with items from your garden.

These Yummy bath soaks smelled so good! Tonya used Dead Sea Salt, Pink Himalayan Salt, Powdered Milk and Organic Coconut.

Sara and Terry of Buchanan Chocolates provided us with pure chocolate bliss.

We were able to sample with our wine pairings an decadent Vanilla Truffle, Loganberry Truffle, Double Chocolate Truffle and my favorite, Raspberry Truffle.

Faded Elegance is proud to carry these fine local chocolates. Buchanan two-bite truffle has a crisp outer shell of pure Belgian chocolate with a silky smooth ganache center.

As promised, Dee Mason was kind enough to share with us her fabulously sinful Chocolate Macadamia Nut Tart recipe. This is one of the awesomely decadent treats Dee prepared for our Design Seminar. I will confess to having a small piece the morning after our event with a cup of coffee. Bad Kimberly!!!!!!!

Chocolate Macadamia Nut Tart-

Crust- 6 oz. macadamia nuts (about 1 1/3 cups) finely chopped in food processor, or by hand.

1/2 cup sugar

3 T. melted butter

Mix to combine and press crumbs into an 8" tart pan. Bake at 350 degrees about 10 minutes or until crust is golden brown. Cool completely before filling.

Filling- 12 oz. bittersweet chocolate

1 cup heavy whipping cream

1/3 cup sugar

1 egg yolk

1/3 cup sour cream

Melt chocolate and set aside. Cook cream, sour cream, sugar and yolk in a saucepan over medium heat until bubbles form around the edges, don't boil. Whisk into chocolate and pour into prepared crust. Refrigerate for 4 hours. This is just as good made a day ahead!

Drizzle with caramel sauce and serve with whipped cream. Enjoy!

An evening to remember….

As you may know, I love a good soiree. Thursday, March 26th was our first Design Seminar. We closed our doors early to move the store around to accommodate 40 chairs. Kelly DuyByne from Distinctive Designs and I collaborated on our topics for the evening. Kelly has been in the design business for 14 years and specializes in color.

The evening started with champagne and decadent chocolate desserts prepared by Dee Masion. Dee is my go too girl when it comes to catering. As promised we will be posting Dees’ recipe for the Chocolate Macadamia Nut Tart. Thanks Dee!

Everyone received a fabulous swag bag of goodies and a $10.00 Gift Card.

I was thrilled to share what inspires me in my own personal decorating. I shared my tips on decorating with Antiques and Found Objects, using items that inspire me from my home.

I introduced our new custom order fabric and furniture line, French Laundry.

Kelly discussed three different vignettes, bringing the garden inside, lighting and the elegant French Salon vignette. We handpicked items from each of our 16 talented dealers to help inspire everyone.
We encouraged everyone to bring pictures of their problem area and we’d help with their design dilemma. Kelly answered design questions and discussed color with the group. She also worked one on one with people.

Congratulations Tiffany! Tiffany was the winner of the In Home Color Consultation and $100.00 Faded Elegance Gift Certificate.

I enjoyed visiting with all our wonderful attendees and friends. Thank you for attending our first Design Seminar. Stay tuned for another Faded Elegance Special VIP evening…. Girls’ Night In, Saturday April 25th.

A Shining Light

Kimberly McIlrath, owner of Faded Elegance, was invited to be one of seven speakers at an entreprenurial panel presentation today, at Everett Community College. Kimberly and six other local business luminaries, including Melody Biringer of CRAVE and Biringer Farms, appeared and spoke as part of a celebration of National Entrepreneurs Week. The presentation was hosted by EvCC’s School of Business Design, which offers degrees and certificates in entrepreneurship.

All of us who are involved with Faded Elegance are so proud of Kimberly for her great attitude and willingness to give back to the community. We recognize and applaud her for inspiring future generations of Main Street entrepreneurs!

Candles, Romance, Beauty, Et Al....

Et Al Designs was founded in 1994 by Alina Bednarz, after a long & successful career in fashion design. Her goal is to design candles and accessories that bring beauty, creativity, and harmony to every environment.

Alina began manufacturing 100% natural beeswax candles and candelabras in her native Poland, learning to appreciate the art and beauty of the centuries-old handrolled candle tradition as she watched local artisans ply their craft. It emits negative ions when burning, which combat and reduce environmental pollution and indoor air problems in your home.

Alina offers a few simple tips for obtaining the most enjoyment with candles:

*The height of the wick determines the height of the flame. For optimal burning, trim the wick to 1/4" before lighting.
*With the initial burn of a candle, it should burn for 1 hour X its width in diameter - a 7" diameter candle should burn for 7 hours the first time you light it. This will allow the candle to burn down evenly each time you use it.
*Prevent uneven burning by keeping burning candles out of drafts.
*Use a candle snuffer to extinguish the flame, to avoid spilling or spraying wax caused by blowing it out.
*Votive candles will clean up easily when 1/8" water is added to votive holders before inserting candle.
*Taper candles should be stored flat to prevent warping.
*Wax can easily be removed from candleholders or linens - place item in the freezer, let the wax harden, then scrape off with a credit card! No scratches!
*Always burn candles on a heat-resistant and non-combustible surface, and never leave a burning candle unattended.
*Keep candles up out of the reach of children and pets at all times.

Gifts & Goodies Galore were the name of the game on Saturday, at the Pink Pumpkins for the Cure event. Each attendee received a goodie bag filled with samples & coupons for luxurious amenities from participating merchants. The bags (pink, natch!) were handed out with a smile by Valley General Hospital Foundation Director Lin McIlrath.

Everyone had a chance to enter for some FAbulous gift basket giveaways, too! The Valley General Hospital Foundation in partnership with the Western Washington Oncology Group donated this beautiful selection of products for a free raffle.

Every vendor wore pink, and most tables had pink products to further the theme. Everyone also offered a great selection of merchandise at deep discounts - this was a great chance for some early Holiday shopping, and some savvy women did just that!
